About Day of X

There are few faster-growing cultural phenomena than that of dedicating every single segment of the calendar to some cause, group or idea. And I feel that, as citizens of the world, it's essential that we honour every single one of these important milestones.

The problem is, there is no single, central resource which will tell you which of these vitally important Days you are currently living in. What if you found out, at one minute to midnight, that you've been wearing shorts throughout the International Day of Trousers, having mistakenly thought it was an ordinary Thursday? How could you look yourself in the eye after that fiasco, knowing that everyone in the world has been laughing at you all day?

Day of X is here to help.

Every single day of the year, I'll be keeping you up to date on what Day you're currently living in, and providing helpful advice on how best to celebrate it. And if it's one of those few, scarce and sad days that isn't yet dedicated to some worthy idea? I'll make one up.

You're very welcome.

Day of X. Because every day should be special. And it's not special until it's recognised by some abitrary action group.

About Mark Hewitt

I'm a former IT technician, security guard, cleaner, railway ticket inspector, graduate in Psychology and Art History, and a geek, foodie, philosopher, web designer, shaman and writer. So far. I'm from Bedford, England.

At the start of 2007 I decided to sell or give away everything I owned and travel round the world for an indefinite period of time with just a backpack and a craving for adventure.

I hitchhiked across two thirds of Canada and the United States and a good chunk of Mexico, appeared in a rodeo, saw a killer whale from a tiny fishing boat, camped in the Black Rock Desert with seventy-five thousand people for a week (twice), spent forty-eight hours straight on a Greyhound bus, saw Bob Dylan perform live in Texas, toured NASA, ate alligator in New Orleans, celebrated Thanksgiving on a ranch, studied yoga in Vegas, and lived in San Francisco for nine months while working as a cleaner by day and a bouncer by night (If you want to read all about it, I'm currently reposting my travel journals at Seeking An Extraordinary Life)

Now I'm working to kickstart twin businesses in web design and home computer support, writing about technology, productivity and food, and working on as many other projects as I can cram into my time. You can follow all my activities at Silverknife.

The concept for Day of X struck me early one morning when I'd just woken up, and was still wandering around in a daze trying to roll my first cigarette and figure out where my socks were. I fleshed out the idea on my way to the shop to get something for breakfast, registered the domain and created the blog when I got home and designed the site through the afternoon. I wrote the first post just before I went to bed. So far, I'm enjoying it a lot.
