July the 21st: International Remembrance Day

An arrangement of psychoactive drugsImage via Wikipedia

Around the world, July the 21st is recognised as International Remembrance Day for those who have died of drugs, alcohol or tobacco. It's a sad time, but also a time to examine our own lives to see where we are taking unnecessary risks in our substance use.

In honour of the Day, Day of X suggests the following ways to ensure you don't become a substance misuse fatality:

  1. When people start to mistake your needle tracks for an item of clothing, it may be time to take a little break.
  2. Snorting industrial solvents is all good fun, but once in a while why not have a nice chocolate biscuit instead?
  3. Like calories, illegal psychoactive substances ingested at somebody else's house don't count.
  4. Never cook up on an aluminium spoon - aluminium cookware has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimers.
  5. Switch from pills to suppositories on alternate weeks, to give each end a chance to rest.
  6. If there is more than the usual amount of blood in your vomit, make sure you eat plenty of dark green vegetables to maintain your iron levels.
  7. When injecting heroin into your eyeballs, try not to sneeze.

And that's your Day for today.
