- Advertising. Older people move relatively slowly and often lack awareness of their environment, which leaves them vulnerable to unscrupulous advertisers. Many an elderly person arrives at their destination with a number of fliers, posters and (in extreme cases) fluorescent signs attached to them.
- Guard dogs. The elderly are fiercely territorial, defending their lawns and deckchairs with unusual determination. Sadly, this quality is often exploited by unethical security companies, who will move their grass or towel to a site of their choosing, assured that the elderly person will continue to defend the valued property at least until it's time for tea or snooker is on the television.
- Smuggling. Shockingly, almost 38% of illegally imported goods are now transferred hidden in the wrinkles of elderly travellers.
- The ongoing exploitation of the elderly population to keep Rich Tea biscuits profitable.
- Comedy. The elderly make an easy target for lazy comedy writers and bloggers, providing ample fuel for cheap gags based on easy and out-of-date stereotypes.
